Virgil C. Chasteen
Virgil C. Chasteen, 88, of Standard City, passed away Tuesday evening, February 15, 2011 at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield.
He was born November 4, 1922 in Centralia, Illinois, the son of Charles Melvin and Ethel Edith (Payne) Chasteen.
Virgil was a Seaman for the United States Navy through World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. After moving to Virginia Beach, Virginia he retired in 1981, where he moved to Cincinnatti, Ohio working as a machinist till 1989. In 1996 Virgil moved to Standard City to be close to his family and friends.
He was a life member of the Military Order of the Cootie, as well as, a lifetime member of the Litchfield VFW Post #3912, Litchfield American Legion Post #436 and the Carlinville Moose Club. Funeral Information
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., Friday, February 18 at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Girard.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, February 19, 2011 at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Strope officiating.
Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery on Monday, February 21, at 10:00 A.M. with full military honors. Donations Information
