Jim L. Curry
84, of Carlinville, passed away Sunday morning, December 23, 2012 in Carlinville at the home of his son. He was born July 31, 1928 in Beardstown, IL, the son of Louis R. and Marie (Ballard) Rust. Jim served in the United States Marine Corps and later married Mary Alice Beaver on August 25, 1951 at Fourth Presbyterian Church in Chicago.
Jim was raised in Springfield, IL and graduated from Lanphier High School. He attended Blackburn College in Carlinville, IL, graduating in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and mathematics.
Jim first worked as a mathematician for the federal government at the White Sands Proving Grounds in Alamogordo, New Mexico from 1951 to 1953. He then moved to Oak Park, IL where he was employed as a chemist for Nalco Chemical in Chicago until 1959. He and his family then settled in Carlinville after Jim purchased Lott Ice and Coal Co. which he owned and operated as Curry Ice and Coal, Inc. for more than fifty years.
Jim was a member of the Greenfield Baptist Church in Greenfield, IL.
Jim enjoyed traveling, and he and Mary were able to visit many countries around the world. He was one of the original members of the 10:00 coffee group, aka/Cavalier Coffee Club and he planned his mornings so he wouldn't miss time with the "guys".
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Mary Curry; three sons, Dan (Susan) Curry of Mt. Pulaski, IL, Ray (Gayla) Curry of Hannibal, MO and David Curry of Pittsfield, IL; two daughters, Holly (Paul) Leefers of Litchfield, IL and Susan (Ron) Lewis of Carlinville; 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Beverly A. Kratzer. Funeral Information
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 27, 2012 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Carlinville.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 28, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. John Pattison officiating.
Burial will follow in the Carlinville City Cemetery. Donations Information
