Leon L. Giger
Leon L. Giger, age 89, of Virden, formerly of Girard, died Tuesday, March 24th at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. She was born May 12, 1919 in Kuttawa, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Doss Swindle, Sr. and the late Myrtle Peay.
Leon graduated from Lebanon High School in 1936, and later she attended McKindree College and Sangamon State University.
Leon married Omar Paul Giger in Waterloo, Illinois on February 7, 1937. He preceded her in death on November 13, 2000. She was a bookkeeper for Hulcher Trucking in Virden, and then owned and operated Giger Bookkeeping for twenty-five plus years.
Mrs. Giger loved to paint, and painted many pictures for her children and family. She took flying lesions, and was very proud the day she soloed.
Leon is survived by five children: Alaine Matheis of Texas, Violet Hills (Billy) of Salem, Ron Giger (Carol) of Springfield, Don Giger (Debra) of Decatur, and Sue Whitley (Dave) of Nilwood. She leaves behind 14 Grandchildren, 19 Great-Grandchildren, and 5 Great-Great-Grandchildren. A brother, Earl Omar Swindle of Kansas City, Missouri and several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, 2 grandsons, 1 brother, and 3 sisters. Funeral Information
Friends may call Friday, March 27th, from 3:00 - 5:00 P.M. at the Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Girard, where the funeral will be held immediately following visitation at 5:00 P.M. Rev. Ray Long will officiate. Burial will be at a later date at Highland City Cemetery, in Highland, Illinois. Donations Information
